Welcome!
This online program is designed to introduce you to the power of yoga as a daily practice. Your health and wellbeing is the single most important contributor to enjoying life. I think you will agree it is very hard to be calm and happy whilst there are underlying issues of pain. Yoga has been proven to help reduce pain, improve sleep quality, give mental clarity and deepen your sense of resilience.
By embarking on your personal yoga journey you are calling time on being held back by physical restrictions and limiting beliefs. You are facing yourself at the present moment and empowering yourself to make the changes you know are needed. One day (on the mat) at a time.
What’s the difference between yoga and fitness routines?
- It’s the breath!  In yoga we focus on breath coordinated with movement, thus providing you with the connection between the mind and body.
- It’s also the attitude we hold to the activity. The gym mentality of “no pain no gain” gives way to the first principle of yoga “Ahimsa – do no harm”. Do no harm to others but equally importantly do no harm to yourself.
Your Teacher and Guide
Hi, I’m Suz Stokes and I’ve been teaching yoga for over 10 years. My belief is that yoga as a personal practice is a great way to access improved health and wellbeing. Not only will it improve your physical presence, it will give you mental clarity and you will radiate peace and harmony. This comes with a very large caveat, because first there are all the aches and pains and accumulated traumas from life’s experiences to date, as well as a lot of unprocessed emotions, to be cleared from your body and mind.
In the past 11 years I have spent more than 500 hours immersed in learning how to teach yoga, covering Vinyasa, Hatha, Yin, and Restorative modalities. There is a little bit of each modality in these sessions. I have run a private yoga studio for the past 8 years, specializing in working with individuals to help them improve their health through physical movement and mindfulness.
In the six weekly sessions of this program you will learn easy yoga poses as well as more challenging options. Take what resonates with you and please leave the rest. It’s called “yoga practice” for a reason. You are practicing – not perfect – the main thing is that you show up regularly.
The yoga story goes something like this. If the farmer wants to find water in the field, he is better to dig one hole deeply rather than multiple shallow holes. Progress through the course and pick a class (or two) that are right for you now, then repeat until it is time to move on. That is how you will get the most benefit from this program and your yoga practice.
It’s my pleasure to offer this six week program to teach you how to do yoga AT HOME. Whether you have done yoga before, or not, this is a great place to start. These fundamentals create the building blocks of a sustainable practice. Or as I like to say – when we know the rules – we know when it’s appropriate to break them. And that includes breaking the “six week” construct. Please take as long as you need before moving forward to the next lesson.
The good news is that each session is designed to help lift your mood, energize the body; and start a conversation between your mind and your body.
So let’s dive into the course itself …
